Resistance welding and laser welding

Comparison of the two welding techniques

In modern industry, welding technology is an important processing method. Among them, resistance welding and laser welding are two common welding methods. While the two approaches are similar in many ways, there are some significant differences in principle, operation, and performance. This article will compare and analyze the principles, advantages and disadvantages of these two welding technologies, as well as application scenarios.

Resistance welding

Resistance welding is a welding method that generates resistance heat through the workpiece by applying an electric current, so that the workpiece melts to form a molten pool, so as to realize the welding of metal connections. Resistance welding has the advantages of simple equipment, convenient operation and high production efficiency, but at the same time, there are also relatively high requirements for the size of the workpiece and relatively large pressure and shortcomings in the welding process.

Laser welding

Laser welding is a welding method that uses a high-energy laser beam to irradiate the working surface to instantly melt to form a molten pool, thereby realizing metal connection. Laser welding has the advantages of fast welding speed, small heat-affected zone and high welding quality, but it also has the disadvantages of expensive equipment and difficult operation.

Application scenarios:

Resistance welding is often used in automotive, electronics, aerospace and other fields, mainly used in the manufacture of sheet metal components, stamping parts, gears and other parts. Laser welding is commonly used in aerospace, shipbuilding, electronics and other fields, mainly used to manufacture precision components, high-strength components, etc.

Summary:

Both resistance welding and laser welding have important welding methods in modern industry, each with its own advantages and disadvantages. In practical applications, the appropriate welding method should be selected according to the material, size, shape and other factors of the specific workpiece.

At the same time, with the continuous advancement of technology, resistance welding and laser welding are also constantly improving and perfecting, and it is expected to be applied in more fields in the future.
