Many people may not know that there is a button battery on the computer motherboard, most of which are CR2032 (20mm diameter, 3.2mm thick, lithium battery). What's the use of this battery?

1 Keep the clock working

I don't know whether we have found that even if the computer is powered off, the time of the computer will remain accurate. The button battery on the motherboard is the one that keeps the quartz clock on the motherboard working. Therefore, after the motherboard battery is unplugged, the motherboard time will return to the default (such as January 1, 2008). If the computer time is not accurate, it will lead to problems such as some software that needs to check the time cannot be opened or the web page cannot be opened, and when you turn on the computer, you will be prompted to press F2 to enter the system.

2 Storage of BIOS setting information

One memory in the BIOS is EEPROM, which will not be modified generally (unless the BIOS is upgraded) and stores the default information of the BIOS. The memory I want to talk about today is to store the specific setting information of BIOS (such as overclocking setting, ATA working mode, boot device, etc.). Its name is complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS for short). The characteristic of this CMOS is that it can maintain the internal stored data when the power is on, and clear the data after the power is off (somewhat similar to DRAM).

Now the motherboard generally adopts the external button type battery button method. When it needs to be removed, just press down the button next to the battery holder, and then push out the battery. If you are prompted to press F1 after startup, press F1 once, then press F10, and then press Enter. After the replacement, no special settings are required. If the time is not correct, adjust the time. Most of them are synchronized automatically.

How long will it take to replace the button battery? Generally speaking, the service life of the button battery is 5~7 years, but the power may be insufficient before the service life is exhausted. You can pull out the button battery and put it back for 2 minutes. If you can continue to use it, it is OK. If you still cannot start the machine normally, you need to replace it.
